The other shoe falls...appears Rare Book Review is gone, too

Following on the heels of Fine Books & Collections' decision to abandon print for a digital existence, it appears that Rare Book Review has also ceased publication. Published since 1974, RBR "is to be 'mothballed' with immediate effect!". There is no indication as to what direction they may take...perhaps they will publish periodically. They do, it appears, intend to keep the website live and to sell banner space there but there is no clear sign that they will be adding content. We shall see.

Icky way to start the week...with luck, the news will improve...

The ONLY upside to this news is that I no longer have to dread creating new shelf space for these publications - they can live forever static like the 31 issues of Biblio . . .

You have your facts wrong about Fine Books & Collections. They cut their print schedule from six to one, but they are certainly not out of business. They plan a monthly e-letter, and they have lined up a number of new writers. I understand they just hired a new full-time editor.

Actually, I did not say that FB&C was going out of business. Rather, I said that they had abandoned print for a digital existence. The email I saw did not mention an annual print copy...but I fervently hope that is the case. One is better than none...

As I said in an earlier post, while I regret seeing FB&C stop printing(?!?), I look forward to seeing who the digital journal evolves. They are/were certainly the best of breed in this country and as an advocate for the pursuit and profession, I want to see them succeed.
