Didier Mutel asked me to join him for dinner and it was my extreme pleasure to accept. We ended up at Bouillon Chartier Restaurant (four owners since 1896). the company was (interruption: my hostess is entertaining in the living room and the Sex Pistols, No Future just played…I’m inexplicably pleased…) great fun and we spent the evening talking of printing, paper, ink, and art. The food was nearly a match…

We started with a dozen escargots…well, we started with beer. Then escargot, and a nice white. Then I had the best tartare de boeuf I can recall-worth a trip there for this alone-and a bottle of red. Then two after dinner drinks (apple and plume-two so we could both have each). Great waiter, great food, great company–great evening. I walked all the way home…partly as i need the exercise, partly to burn off some of the alcohol. Pictures are below. I am already asleep.

Bonus: do you know what 1000 or so roller-bladers skating by at 11pm looks like? I do. Paris is great fun.
