News:
We will be at the following shows this fall. We hope to
see you at one or all. Please stop in and say 'hi' (or,
better yet, buy a book):
Baltimore Summer Antique and Antiquarian Book Show

Maine Antiquarian Book and Paper Show
Wyndham Hotel, Portland, ME - Sept. 28th
Seattle Antiquarian Book Fair and Book Arts Show 2008
Seattle Center Exhibition Hall, Seattle, WA - Oct. 11-12th
West Side
Antiquarian Book & Ephemera Fair

ABAA Boston Book Fair
Hynes Conv. Center, Boston, MA - Nov. 14-16st
The June issue of Maine Antiques Digest ran a very nice
article about the MABA fair in Boston. The first two pictures
(and a nice blurb) were of Ian and the Moxon. The Moxon,
at least, is photogenic. A .pdf of the artical is here (N.B.
You might want to right click and choose "save file as...".
Lux Mentis is very pleased (and honored) to announce that
it was voted into the ABAA/ILAB in
early 2008.
We are very honored to join these ranks and will do all we can to forward the
missons of both organizations.
In November, 2007, Ian was voted appointed the President
of the Maine
Antiquarian Booksellers' Association. Let the cat
herding begin *laughing*.
Lux Mentis is extremely pleased to be
the bookseller sponsor of the now International
Collegiate Book-Collecting Championship hosted by Fine
Books and Collections Magazine. The future of our profession rests with emerging
collectors and we are honored to be supporting this event.
The Portland Press Herald ran a wonderful article about
us in 2006. A typo here and there and a misquote or two
notwithstanding, it was a very nice article. The reporter
called just before I left for the NY Carriage House book
fair and inteviewed me while I was packing boxes. There
is a .pdf of the article here (sadly,
sans the images...ask and
I will send you a copy of the original <laughing>).
Ian is now on the board
of the Baxter
Society and the chairman of the Program Committee.
The Baxter Society is Maine's premier (and only) bibliophilic
society and is populated with a wonderful group of passionate
booklovers. They offer monthly meetings on bookish topics
and great fun is had by all.
We have been very pleased with the results
of our working with Fine
Books and Collections Magazine. We have exceptional
placement, with a 1/3rd page vertical ad next to two columns
of Nicholas Basbanes' "must read" monthly article.
If you have not done so, please consider subscribing...while
our ad is merely pretty, the journal itself is a great
read and much looked forward to every couple of months.
Ian was interviewed (and, sadly for all, photographed)
by Maine Antiques Digest in their June 2005 issue for a
piece they did on book collecting and the MARIAB Boston
show. While quoted a bit out of context, it was a nice
interview and we have had some nice feedback from it.
I have started a blog...in theory, all posts in some way
come back to books...we shall see.
