The Fleshy Prelude.

Paris: Erotica Publishing Company, 1943. First Edition. Original Wraps. Relatively early LGBTQ fiction. A very unusual imprint...very scarce. First printed in 1939, this oft reprinted minor classic is relatively easy to find in the later Vendome Press editions (1948, 1952, and 1955). There is no record of this edition in OCLC and we find no evidence of it in other venues. What appears to be a very scarce issue, likely a pirate, in unusally good shape for such things.
Specifically banned on a number of occasions; “In Willesden, North-West London, a destruction order was issued on 25 January against a variety of books, including a number published in Paris such as The Fleshy Prelude by Robert Sermaine, I Shall Spit On Your Graves by Vernon Sullivan, The Love Orchid by Eric Wensleydale . …” (Steve Holland, THJ, p. 114)
Early mimeo sexually explicit series. It is difficult to find these early, mimeo examples of sexually explicit prose and, for all the usual reasons, it is harder still to find complete multi-volume sets. Poorly printed, poorly bound, and of subject matter that was often disposed of rather than tended to, they seldom pass the test of time. As printed illustration was beyond the technology used, these are illustrated with four b/w photographs in each volume. Very Good in Wraps. Moderate shelf/edge wear, chips at front wrapper tips, small closed split at heel, minor tape pull at top of spine, title page and blue paper image pages show lift damage and tipped in photos have been removed, else tight, bright, and unmarred. Olive green paper wraps, dark green tape spine, blue paper sheets bound in for tipped in images, printed on on the recto (typical of mimeo volumes). Square 8vo. 200pp. Item #10486
