Nine maps including a large color folding map at rear. The author was the Director of the National Geographic Expeditions to the Mt. Katmai region of Alaska from 1917-19. The Mt. Katmai region was the site of one of the world's largest volcanic eruptions. The dramatic effects of that eruptions are photographically and scientifically documented in the detailed report. The folding map shows the Katmai National Monument, Alaska, est. in 1919. The Katmai region is noted for its Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes and for its brown bears. Very Good+.
