Ernst Ludwig Posselt (January 22, 1763 in Durlach – June 11, 1804 in Heidelberg) was a German historian. Posselt studied in Göttingen and Strasbourg. In 1784 he became a professor at the grammar school in Karlsruhe and in 1791 he was a bailiff in Gernsbach near Rastatt. He resigned from this office in 1796 because of his sympathies for the ideas of the French Revolution . From 1785 to 1788, he was editor of the journal Scientific Magazine for Enlightenment.
