Edwardian Ladies dress 'garment shield' protector sample catalog.

London (UK): c. late 19th c. and early 20th c. Unique. Hardcover. Excellent trade catalog of the Edwardian period fashion of "garment shields" in England. The pieces were worn on the inside of the camisole and protected dresses from stains and odours in the days before automatic washing machines. The materials were made of silk, linen and mesh fabrics. The armpit area was particularly vulnerable to perspiration and odor, making the shield an essential accessory for any fashionable lady of that era. Very Good in Wraps. Toned and chipped outer, rubbed and discoloration, evidence of water damage, dampstraining, shaken, but intact. Rubbed and toned textiles, else very good. Large tri-fold out board with pasted down blue papers with attached linen textile specimens and printed caption titles. Ribbon ties. Item #12241
