The Black Doll: A Silent Film.

New York: Gotham Book Mart, 1973. First Edition. Original Wraps. The Black Doll, a little-known and never-produced screenplay by the celebrated artist and writer Edward Gorey (1925-2000), dishes up a rambunctious romp of a plot, featuring vile villains, wicked women, sinister socialites, and a horrified heroine. It's the stuff of many a silent melodrama but imbued with classic Gorey convolutions. Written in 1973 and originally published in Scenario magazine in 1998. From the library of Dr. Oliver Sacks, the renowned neurologist, author, and educator. He was, in his life, celebrated for his contributions to the understanding of the human brain and his ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to a broader audience. In doing so, he highlighted the profound impact of neurological disorders on human identity and experience. His library is a reflection of this remarkable polymath's questing mind. Posthumously designed book plate by a friend of Oliver’s, incorporating his longstanding love of cephalopods. Very Good+ in Wraps. Light shelfwear, wrappers split on spine, small creases, and little fading, else tight, bright, and unmarred. Black wrapper with cut out illustration on covers. Limited edition of 100 numbered copies signed by author, in special binding and slipcased. Twenty-six copies, lettered A-Z and signed are for the artist and publisher. This copy unsigned and unnumbered. Small 12mo. 52pp. Item #12926
