Plague Poems [Artist Book].

Dublin, Ireland: Salvage Press, 2026. Limited Edition. Wraps. "Seven books from seven leading Irish poets commissioned during the first Covid-19 lockdown in 2020; an anthology of new writing marking this important moment in human history. On one hand shocking and visceral, on the other hand soothing and meditative, the individual books are wrapped in details from woodcuts found in Hans Holbein the Younger's 'The Danse Macabre', first cut in wood by Hans Lützelburger c.1523-1525. These woodcuts represent the very idea of death and how, without prejudice, it may visit us at any time; it reminds us that we have been through plagues before. Due to their beauty, their emotive relevance, their quincentennial engraving date and their universal theme, Murphy chose to enlarge details from these famous plates by 20,000%, making these new woodcuts the major visual element of the project. Poetry from Annemarie Ní Churreáin, John FitzGerald, Supriya Kaur Dhaliwal, Elaine Feeney, Eleanor Hooker, Gerard Smyth and Jessica Traynor. Designed & letterpress printed by Jamie Murphy at The Salvage Press, Dublin. Enclosures executed by Elize de Beer in Cork." [Artist Statement]. Fine in Original Wraps housed in slipcase. Tight, bright, and unmarred; portfolio and slipcase bright and clean. Printed paper boards, gilt lettering. np. Illus. DJ. Numbered limited edition of 125 copies.
