"One hundred and forty copies have been printed and bound April, 1970 by Claire Van Vliet at the Janus Press in West Burke Vermont."--Colophon. Claire Van Vliet is a printmaker and typographer who founded Janus Press in San Diego, California in 1955. She received a MacArthur Genius Grant in 1989 and is known for her innovative use of pigmented pulp to create images in edition for books, prints and broadsides. Van Vliet has exhibited and lectured around the world, in universities and museums. This copy includes a handwritten letter from Claire Van Vliet to bookseller Larry McGilvery thanking him for his support of Janus Press over the years and inviting him to come to New England. She also stated she is "working on another Kafka.. titled: Conversation with a Suppliant," dated 25 March 1971. Near Fine. Near fine.
